Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Angle first gained fame in amateur wrestling, winning the gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, despite competing with a broken neck. Angle debuted in WWE in 1999, quickly rising to prominence with his “American Hero” persona, complete with patriotic themes and an “Olympic hero” gimmick that blended his real-life achievements with his in-ring character. Known for his technical wrestling style, he won numerous championships, including the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and Intercontinental Championship. Angle also worked with TNA (now Impact Wrestling) from 2006 to 2016, becoming one of their top performers and a multi-time world champion.
His career is marked by intense rivalries, high-caliber matches, and signature moves, like the Angle Slam and Ankle Lock submission. In 2017, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Despite ongoing injuries, including several neck injuries, Angle is celebrated for his dedication, resilience, and impact on wrestling.
